Psalm 139 - Part 4
Psalm 139:3 “You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”
The KJV text uses the word, “compassest” instead of “search out”. The Hebrew meaning for this word is “to scatter”, like when they separate the wheat from the chaff on the winnowing floor. Separating out the good from the bad. This is what God is doing with us.
During our times of activity and our times of rest, God is sifting out our thoughts and actions.
I don’t know about you but when I am active all day I don’t find my mind wandering into sinful thought patterns but when I lie down at night and my mind is at rest, I tend to allow my thoughts to reveal discontentment in my life, disappointments I have and discouragement of self.
God sees all this, liked we’ve covered before, He discerns our thoughts from afar, he has examined me and now is searching out the good from the bad in me.
When I am on the go, He is there. When I lie down to sleep, He is there.
He is at all times good and desires for us to be holy as He is holy.
So, God scatters the bad, so that all that is left is a reflection of His perfect Son, Jesus Christ.
That is what God does,
but it takes action on our part.
We have to recognize the bad stuff we allow in our minds and hearts and make every effort to remove them.
Take negative thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5), let God scatter them and replace them with pure heavenly thoughts.
“Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
Thinking Deeper:
Where do you see yourself, a good balance of sitting and moving? More on the go or sitting around?
Either one you are, are you using your time to further the kingdom of God or your own gain.
Are you glorifying the name of God or are you standing in His spotlight?
If God knows all your ways and some of them are not uplifting and holy ways…are you listening to the Holy Spirit and turning from those things?
God already knows! Why not take some time to ask Him to show how you can be more like His perfect Son, Jesus!
