Psalm 139 - Part 11
Psalm 139:11-12 “If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is bright as the day, for the darkness is a light with You.”
David is seeking to make a point here. He has tried to hide in the sky, the depths of the sea and even tried to out run the day…just to hide from God. But still, God is there.
Here we see that David has taken it a step further, he is taking cover in the darkness. He is trying to get himself to a place where God cannot see him. Have you ever been looking for a place like that?
Hid yourself in darkness?
What good came of it?
The night is the time when evil people plot and carry out their plans. (Proverbs 2:13, 4:19)
I don’t know about you but I am not one to go frolicking in the middle of the night…I’ve seen that horror film…
it didn’t end well!
We may not be able to feel the presence of God in the cover of darkness. Maybe that makes you feel better about your sin. I hate to break it you…Just as David realized…God is there too!
David wrote, even the dark is not dark to You. With God, the night is as bright as day.
GOD IS LIGHT
...and in Him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
You may be trying to cover that flame He lit in you many years ago. You may be trying to hide in the darkness, but the Light of the World has sparked something in you, that no matter where you run to or where you try to hide, the flame will be shinning in the darkness.
You are God's child and He is able to find you where ever you may go.
Furthermore, He is able to rekindle the fire He once started and make it greater than it ever was. Nothing is impossible with God! (Luke 18:27)
If you feel that you are in a dark place now, with no hope of a way out…
UNCOVER YOUR LIGHT…let it start to shine, again!
Let God come and light up the path back to Him. He is doing great things, new things! (Isaiah 43:19) He is making a way for you to come back to Him and there is a plan to make your light be the difference in someone else’s life.
Thinking Deeper:
I love singing the children’s song, This Little Light of Mine, whenever I feel I am walking into a darkened situation. Think about the song…
are you hiding your light under a bushel or letting Satan try to blow it out?
Or are you actively protecting your light?
We must seek truth in God’s Word, pray for strength and be on the lookout for the enemy’s attacks.
He is prowling around like a lion trying in any way to hide the light of Jesus in us. It’s time to take action. Turn from the dark place you may be hiding…uncover your little light and let it shine for all to see!
