Psalm 139 - Part 11

Psalm 139:11-12 “If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is bright as the day, for the darkness is a light with You.” David is seeking to make a point here. He has tried to hide in the sky, the depths of the sea and even tried to out run the day…just to hide from God. But still, God is there. Here we see that David has taken it a step further, he is taking cover in the darkness. He is trying to get himself to a place where God cannot see him. Have you ever been looking for a place like that? Hid yourself in darkness? What good came of it? The night is the time when evil people plot and carry out their pl

Psalm 139 Part 10

Psalm 139:8-10 If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. David is really driving home the point that God is omnipresent (He is everywhere). Have you ever tried to run from God? How did that go for you? David had many high and low moments in his life. Many times he fled to hide from enemy attacks but I bet there were times he wanted to hide from God too. {Like that one time with Bathsheba… just saying}. (2 Samuel 11). Psalm 139 - Part 9

Psalm 139:7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence? I love listening to and singing contemporary Christian music, the lyrics remind me that I am no alone. Through daily praise, I feel the Holy Spirit rejoicing and I know that there is no place I can go that the Holy Spirit will not be. In the time David wrote this Psalm, the Holy Spirit had not descended on the entire Church yet. God would put His Spirit upon one person or another for wisdom, strength or prophecy. Not like it is now, after Jesus’ death, resurrection and ascension into Heaven. The day of Pentecost (Act 2) was when we as believers gained our counselor and comforter. We have understanding an

Psalm 139 - Part 8

Psalm 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. {Knowledge is the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.} Show of hands, who has a practical understanding of God? There are times I think I really understand why God does stuff and other times my mind just spins in circles. Sometimes I am aware of how God searches me out, knows me fully, knows when I sit down and when I stand up. Knows all my deepest darkest thoughts, knows the words I will speak even before I know them and is fully surrounding me in guidance and protection (Psalm 139:1-5). Then other times I can’t seem to comprehend why, so I just stand in awe of His love for me. That is such
