Psalm 139 - Part 5
Psalm 139:4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
Before the first sound we ever made on this planet, God knew each word that would be coming out of our mouths. That is a hard thing to get our minds around.
To some this is a reason to not believe in God. He is so complex, our minds can’t wrap around the thought that someone could know every word that every person in all of time, throughout all the world would speak. Plus you add that there are all the language differences in there too. It makes my brain hurt just trying to compute it all.
I find this is one of the most amazing reasons not only to believe in God but to worship His holy name.
He is greater than anything the human mind can comprehend, He is worthy of all our praise.
And yet before we speak He knows if those words will be praise or slander or foolish talk. Even more so, He knows the desire behind our words.
This passage says,
“You know it altogether”,
the fullness of our desires,
our hurt,
our anger
even our greed.
God sees our heart and every word we speak He has determined the reason for that word.
As we have seen in the previous verses, God has searched our heart and sifted out the good from the bad (Psalm 139:2-3).
He knows it all, even when we try to hide our true feelings from others, we cannot hide from God.
Even then, He loves us; unconditionally, fully and eternally.
Thinking Deeper:
Do you remember the first word you ever spoke? Probably not…but if you have kids I bet you remember their first word.
How does it make you feel knowing that God remembers each word and knows the words that you will speak? Makes your brain hurt a little trying to comprehend that?
There are certain things my children say that make me beam with pride or melt inside.
I think it’s the same way with God, like the day you spoke out and asked Jesus into your heart.
Think about your words and how God would feel about them coming out of your mouth.
Take some time to use your words to uplift others, speak praises unto our heavenly Father and to tell others the Good News of our salvation. If you speak them enough your heart will change to match your words.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
