Psalm 139:2b
“You discern my thoughts from afar.”
What makes God, God, is that He is omnipresent (everywhere at all times) and omniscient (He knows all). The beauty of His mercy is that He sees all our actions and knows our deepest darkest thoughts yet loves us anyway. He beckons us to draw near to Him and longs for a real relationship.
You know your child, you can predict what they are going to do before they do it. Even if you know they are going to make the wrong decision you still love them and wait for them to run to you for help.
Unconditional love is hard at times to give and to accept. But as we love our kids unconditionally, so we are also loved by the Father in a way the world cannot understand.
The Psalmist acknowledges that even when He is far from God,
God is still discerning his thoughts.
He’s still being
looked after by the almighty one.
It is God who knows what is truly in our hearts and minds, He is the one who reveals the truth and shows us when our thoughts or actions are not of Him. His desire is for us to be holy as He is holy. So, He must reveal to us when we are not acting/thinking in a holy manner.
As this process of sanctification happens, we draw closer to our Father and accept the unconditional love He gives us.
Think Deeper:
When the Holy Spirit reveals to you that your thoughts/actions are not pure, how do you respond? Do you ignore the Holy Spirit and stay in your sin or do you repent, ask for forgiveness and the next time take those thoughts captive and remove them from your mind?
There is a whole generation who has no desire to be like Jesus, what can you do to make an impact for holiness sake? Maybe through talking about it more or showing it more in your own life.
Pray for God to revel those areas in your life that need to reflect Jesus more. Ask God to show how you to be holy and to give you strength to not fall back into those bad thought patterns or actions.
Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
